I am thankful...

I am thankful for all of the sweet, energetic and bright students that I teach everyday. You are all so unique and I am truly blessed to be your teacher. I hope you and your family have a relaxing and pleasant Thanksgiving break. If you want an interesting activity, check out NPR’s new app. The app lets you record an interview that will be archived at the Library of Congress. The website: https://storycorps.me/ (Links to an external site.) It’s a great way to get to know your grandparents, aunts/uncles, or a friend. Happy Thanksgiving!

From math facts to the Fibonacci sequence....

Summer is a great time to practice math!  No need to limit yourself to a forced 30 minutes each day of math drudgery.  Simply learn to discover math in nature.  It's fun and it is everywhere.  Our last lesson of the year focused on the Fibonacci sequence and how it relates to nature, music and art.  Try this website to get started:  Fibonacci Numbers and the Golden Section .  Or check out the You Tube video above.  Enjoy a truly mathematical summer!

Congratulations to the 2015 graduates!

Creativity with the Recycling Bin!

I love watching kids be creative!  Each  morning we spend about 20 minutes together as a homeroom. My students are currently collecting bottle caps and creating an art project with them.  Earlier in the year, they collected empty plastic bottles and scraps of paper from the recycling bin to create a bowling game!  All of this was student initiated and student executed.  The only thing I did was give them permission to explore their out of the box ideas!
