Children in developing countries often grow up barefoot. Many are not allowed to attend school without shoes and they are often injured or exposed to harmful minerals, which can lead to serious medical conditions. On April 5th and 6th you will have the opportunity to go barefoot during social studies class to help raise awareness of what children in developing countries face everyday. While it might sound like fun to go without shoes during class, think about what it would be like if you had to go barefoot for miles while you walk to school, get clean water or find medical help. Click here for more information: A Day Without Shoes . Go to Events, Find an Event, Barefoot Learning at Eubanks, if you would like to sign up.
Good luck on your trip
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think I've packed everything I need and my pack weighs 37 pounds. I heard they have snow at the trailhead.
ReplyDeleteO no i hope every thing goes well
ReplyDeleteHow many miles will you be hiking on your section hike of the trail?
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of wildlife do you hope to see on your hike?
ReplyDeleteI know there are black bears in the area. I'll have to hang my food and toothpaste in a tree every night to keep the bears from getting it. Also, there are deer, raccoons and lots of birds. I plan to hike between 50 and 100 miles before heading home.
ReplyDeleteHey Mrs. Sparks! its Nick Kraft from school, just thought i'd check this site out and maybe make an account!
ReplyDeleteHey Mrs. Sparks!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's your favorite student, Maggie Eames!!!! I had a question. You said that you would tie up your things in a tree, but you also said that there were black bears in the area, and black bears can climb trees. What if the black bears get to your things? What would you do? Well I hope you have an awesome trip backpacking!!! Good luck on your hike!!!! Have a good spring break!!!!
Your favorite student,
Maggie Eames :)
Maggie, what a great question! Yes, black bears can climb trees. I will have to hang the food far enough away from the tree trunk and far enough down from the branch while still keeping it far enough off the ground to keep it away from the bears. It will be tricky and I REALLY hope I do it right.
ReplyDeleteHey Mrs. Sparks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
