Fabulous lesson from the World War II Museum in New Orleans! They helped us examine political cartoons by Dr. Seuss, answered questions and gave us a tour of the museum.
The World War two skype was very fun, thank you. I learned that many people would read the political cartoons in the newspaper and that it had an impact during the war.
The Skype lesson was really cool because we learned about hidden messages that authors and illustrators sometimes put into their work to convey a hidden message that only will be picked up by people who are looking for them. We were taught that with deeper analysis, we could see many symbolic traits of the political cartoons that run deeper than you might think, especially in Dr. Seuss' political cartoons, which were the ones we studied the most today.
Children in developing countries often grow up barefoot. Many are not allowed to attend school without shoes and they are often injured or exposed to harmful minerals, which can lead to serious medical conditions. On April 5th and 6th you will have the opportunity to go barefoot during social studies class to help raise awareness of what children in developing countries face everyday. While it might sound like fun to go without shoes during class, think about what it would be like if you had to go barefoot for miles while you walk to school, get clean water or find medical help. Click here for more information: A Day Without Shoes . Go to Events, Find an Event, Barefoot Learning at Eubanks, if you would like to sign up.
